A Positive Attitude

I have an announcement coming soon!!  Just waiting on a few details here and there.  I can’t wait to share it with you!!
I’m so excited!

Happy Holidays!

I know it’s barely November, but I’ve already starting thinking about Christmas cards.  It’s been awhile since I sent any out.  I always end up waiting too long and then just give up and don’t send them.

This year will be different.  This year I’ve found the perfect greeting cards.  Tiffany Ard has an Etsy shop called OMGSeriously where she makes the best ever Christmas cards.  None of that fancy, schmancy horse shit about happy feelings and loving one another and blah, blah, blah, blah….

I love ’em!  You must visit her shop and stock up.  I mean there are only like 50+ odd days left until Christmas.

This is fair warning for everyone on my card list… don’t let your kids open my Christmas card.

Ye Gods!

I was so excited yesterday to have received “Clash of the Titans” from Netflix.  I could hardly bare to wait until everyone was home from work/school so we could all sit down and watch this flick.

I was so disappointed.  Don’t get me wrong.  Seeing Sam Worthington made it better, but this remake of the 1981 classic “Clash of the Titans” barely even came close to following the original story line!  Now the ’81 version may see a little “cheesy”, but I’ve loved it since I was a little girl.  The Gods, Harry Hamlin, the Fates, the cute little metal owl… all of it was awesome.

The original didn’t even have Hades represented.  Perseus was enamored with Princess Andromeda, not some cursed to not age Io (still don’t know who that chick was).  Calibos was in love with Andromeda and that’s why Perseus fought him.  Calibos wasn’t sent to kill Perseus by Hades.  Where did these Djinn come from?  Oh for the love of the Gods….  what were they thinking?  Remaking a film is fine if you want to update it to a point, but rewriting the story?!  Well, that just stinks.  And the cute little owl?  Well he had a very, very brief cameo in the remake.  Which is irritating because he played a vital role in the original.  Not to mention, isn’t he the cutest little robot, made of metal, owl you’ve ever seen?

There were a few things that I will give a thumbs up to…

Medusa.  While she was all kinds of CGI, she was still impressive.

Medusa… uh natural?
Medusa turning you to stone.

The Kraken.  Again CGI, but scary.

Please tell me that you floss.

The Fates.  Great make up work on these ladies.

And finally…. Pegasus.  In the original he was white in color.  There are white pegasi (ha… pegasi) in the remake, but Perseus chooses to befriend the much larger black colored Pegasus.  I think I like him better.

My overall review is that I guess it’s an “OK” movie.  If I hadn’t seen (and loved) the original then I might have a different opinion of this version.  I would recommend seeing it, but just be aware that it’s NOTHING like the original.

Spring…errr Fall Cleaning!

I’ve cleaned up around ye olde bloggy today.  I felt that the footer was too busy.  Too cluttered.

Now the badges, banners, etc. have their own little place to call home.  I’ve also given the archives and labels their own places as well.  All of these can be found at the top with the page links.  Bonus photos now in the footer!  I call them “Jumping for Beth” photos 1-3.  I’m also going to start utilizing the “jump break” feature here so those sort of long posts won’t take up the whole main page!

I’m most proud of the artsy fartsy “social networking” icons at the side.  Aren’t they just terrific?  Yea, I thought so too!  So I thought I would show you how you can do this super simple trick yourself!  The lovely designer of my blog layout gave a great tutorial on it as well.  I can’t not give her credit for showing me how to do it.  That would be all kinds of wrong!

So’s here we go…..

First off go visit this website to find some free icons that you can use.  There are 55 different sets to choose from!  Once you find the set you like, download the images then upload them to your choice of image host ie. Photobucket, flickr, etc.

Go to “Add a Gadget”, chose the “HTML/Javascript” gadget and add the following code:

Obviously you’ll have to add in your own links where the code says “yourlinkhere” and “your graphic…”.  Once you’ve done this, save.

The next part is a bit tricky and will require you to access the “Edit HTML” tab on your dashboard.  Make sure you SAVE YOUR TEMPLATE before doing anything at all to it!  I have a custom template so where you place the following code may be different for you.  I had to place it in a couple of different places before I found the correct placement.  I would initially try placing it after the “variable definitions” section.  That is where I placed the code for mine.

Wow… it’s hard to write legibly with a mouse…

You will probably need to adjust the width and “top” increments.  My icons are 50px x 50px so I had to adjust the width to 50px as well.  If you would like your icons to be near the middle of your page, adjust the “top” to 50%, near the top of the page would be around 20%.  It’s easy to see what your page will look like now without having to save by just clicking “preview”.  Once you have everything the way you want it, click save!

TADA!  You did it!  Simple and painless, right?

What the *#$%&

GAP | $69.50 | Faded Black Wash legging jean

I have never been a fan of the skinny jean.  Possibly because I don’t find them comfortable, but mainly because you have to be a size negative 10 to pull them off.  Now someone has designed some monstrosity called…

That’s jeans + leggings or just denim leggings.  The main difference between these and the regular skinny jean is that the jegging has more Lycra.  You know, so they can be tighter.
It’s just my personal opinion, but aren’t clothes supposed to cover you?  Not stick to you as if someone painted them on.  While browsing these… things…. I noticed that in nearly every photo the ladies were wearing heels.  What about the rest of us who rarely wear those heels?  Do they go well with say… sneakers?

If women aren’t already overly self conscious of our bodies, this just gets worse.  Do babies really need to have denim diapers?  I mean … they POOP in them!  I want my kids to be “fashion forward”, but there is no way that I’d buy these for a toddler or infant!  Kids at that age don’t really care what they look like.  They know what makes them uncomfortable though.

I’m sure that loads of people love these types of jeans.  That’s why we have choices and choices are great.  So… make the right choice here people.  Please don’t pay $70 for “jeggings”!

P.S. If you are a guy… skinny jeans always get a big ol’ NO!!!

Friday Flip Offs – July 30th Edition

It’s that time again.  Time for some virtual detox!  Thanks to Gigi from Kludgy Mom.

*I saw your number on the caller ID the other day.  TWO DAYS after her birthday.  I begged the husband to call you back for an hour.  He didn’t.  She wasn’t here anyway.

*Hey old PVA man, did you have to come take photos of the house when the yard looks like it hasn’t been mowed in 2 weeks?  It looks that way because it actually hasn’t been mowed in 2 weeks, but that’s beside the point.  You haven’t photographed the house in 6 years anyway.

*To acquaintances, you’ve proved that to be a farce.  Honestly, I thank you.

*To the patience that I do not have….

*To the humidity that will not go away!

*To the Summer that didn’t last long enough…

And enjoy your weekend!
